National Geographic celebrates new marine protected areas in Niue and Chile
Today's good news was submitted by Alex Schenker of Cover Story Media.
According to this National Geographic article, "the Government of Niue announced the creation of a large-scale marine protected area (LSMPA) encompassing 40 percent of the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone."
NatGeo also shared that "the Government of Chile announced the creation of two new fully protected marine reserves, one around the Juan Fernández Archipelago and another in the area of Cape Horn, covering more than 1 million square kilometers of ocean territory."
And I just love what Alex shared with me when he submitted this bit of good news: "This was possible because people that enacted this change were tuned into news that mattered."
